IN THE WORLD SO DREARY

As the intimidated halo of her throttled persona
Peeks through the windows of swollen eyes
The tears through the spine wash the aroma
Of the dreams that suffer a painful demise

Being born into the world was a success enough
Escaping from the attempts of foeticide
Living through deprivations way too tough
She had her expectations modified

The less the house resembled the classroom
And the more the books looked distant
The lesser the chance for thoughts to bloom
The more the dependence consistent

When the smile that sprouted to see the colorful dresses
Fadedinto the wedding gown
The tiny feet that landed into the abscesses
Struggled to break free, yearned for home town

Beaten for dowry, thrashed into drudgery
Bound into the expectations of raising a family
Reconciling to acknowledgement as a rare luxury
The dreams of thechild, became her ownultimately

Struggling through the life in a world so unfair
Could have its way into the everlasting pessimism
But sowing the warmth, beating the despair
Is nothing but the mark of Womanism!

  1. In the real India with pathetic sex ratio, poem points a poignant picture yet it is refreshingly different from whatever I have heard or seen as it hits the nail where it is supposed to.. "True Mark of Womanism" in the land that worships the female power through Durga & Sati :):) Keep writing such brilliant pieces of work for the world to appreciate :):)

    1. Thank you Sir.
Actually the topic of competition was "gender discrimination" and they had set a definite guideline for the subject of the poem.
Next time I would try writing a more optimistic poem :)
